Yamanashi Prefecture is known throughout Japan as a production area for silk fabrics. It was once known by the name "Kaiki," “Kai” is the former name of Yamanashi Prefecture, and “Ki” means silk. It is also known as one of the largest treasure troves of Jomon pottery and clay figurines in Japan.
Jomon Pottery was the first unglazed pottery to be used in Japan, about 16,500 years from now. Among the many excavated items, the swirl design that mimics the flow of water, famous as one of the pinnacles of primitive art, has been revived over thousands of years as a silk scarf made with rare silk thread from Yamanashi Prefecture. The design was based on the Jomon pottery "Large deep bowl (spiral pattern) excavated in Fuefuki City and owned by the Yamanashi Prefectural Museum. The design can also be viewed on the website of "Yamanashi Design Archive".
In order to weave three-dimensional patterns with natural shading, the patented technology of jacquard weaving, jointly researched by Yamanashi Prefecture and the University of Yamanashi, is used.
As shown in the photo, it can also be used as a small “Furoshiki,” Japanese wrapping cloth.
